Massachusetts Becomes 6th Smokefree = Workplace=20 State
 
Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney signed a statewide smokefree = workplace law yesterday, clearing the air in all workplaces, = including=20 restaurants, bars, and clubs beginning July 5.  Smokefree workplace laws had already = been=20 adopted in about 100 cities and towns in Massachusetts, including = Boston.=20

Massachusetts joins five other = states -- New=20 York, Connecticut, Maine, Delaware, and California -- that already = provide clean=20 air in the workplace.

Supporters of the new law say it = will=20 improve the health of workers by protecting them from diseases = caused=20 by tobacco smoke.  "Smokefree workplace legislation is a = matter of=20 respect and dignity for workers," says Joe Cherner, founder of BREATHE-- = Bar and=20 Restaurant Employees Advocating Together for a Healthy = Environment.  "All=20 workers deserve a safe work environment, free of cancer-causing = toxins."
