"With the tenth anniversary of the Mohammed cartoons is a glum day for free speech.   But that's no reason for some 'social media' billionaire not to make it worse.   During her visit to New York for the grand UN dictators' ball, Angela Merkel was overheard rebuking FB CEO Mark Zuckerberg for permitting people to post 'anti-immigrant' sentiments on social media: 'On the sidelines of a United Nations luncheon on Saturday, Merkel was caught on a hot mic pressing Zuckerberg about social media posts about the wave of Syrian [migrants/ refugees/ asylees/ invaders/ terrorists] entering Germany, the publication reported.   The FB CEO was overheard responding that we need to do some work on curtailing anti-immigrant posts about the [migrant/ refugee/ asylee/ invader/ terrorist] crisis.   Are you working on this?, Merkel asked in English, to which Zuckerberg replied in the affirmative before the transmission was disrupted.'   The very small cartel that run 'social media' worldwide are increasingly hostile to free speech outside of a limited and largely trivial number of subjects.   Ours will be the first civilization to slide off the cliff while watching cat videos.   I wonder if, by the time Zuckerberg's 'done some work' on this, we'll still be able to quote Henryk Broder on FB.   The author of _The Last Days of Europe_, Broder was one of the speakers in Copenhagen joining me to mark the tenth anniversary of the Motoons.   As befits his book title, he was something of a pessimist, especially when it came to Chancellor Merkel and her perplexing enthusiasm for unassimilable ['migrants'/ 'refugees'/ 'asylees'/ invaders/ terrorists]:   Speaking of the last days of Europe, when visiting foreign cities, I've lately made a habit of touring their old Jewish cemeteries.   For one thing, a community in such steep decline that it can no longer tend its graves is a sobering preview of the demographic eclipse Catholics and Protestants will shortly be confronting across the Continent.   I also like to visit, if any are to hand, Commonwealth War Graves Commission cemeteries.   And oddly enough in Malmoe, Sweden the CWGC is responsible for two graves that happen to lie within the city's Jewish cemetery.   As I've noted, Malmoe is currently accepting up to a thousand ['migrants'/ 'refugees'/ 'asylees'/ invaders/ terrorists] every 24 hours.   Which means that a single day's intake of Muslims now outnumbers what remains of a once strong Jewish community in the city.   Their only cemetery (which opened in 1872) has had a rough few years: Mourners have been harassed, the burial chapel has been fire-bombed, and the over-night ritual of shmirat ha met has required police protection.   The new mayor's long-time predecessor was indifferent to the rise in violent anti-Semitic attacks, and apparently happy to see Jews leave.   The cemetery sits on the Foereningsgatan in a corner of the main St Paul's grave-yard, walled off from the rest.   The Christian cemetery has the air of an open city park, pedestrians and bicyclists criss-crossing from one street to the next.   But its Jewish neighbor lies behind heavy solid metal gates, reinforced at the back by beams driven into the ground.   Nevertheless, it's well-tended.   Even as the Jewish community decays, it will be a while before its cemetery is reduced to the garbage-strewn scrubland of broken stones I toured in Tangiers.   I walked to the back of the graveyard, where in the center of a small circle stands a memorial to concentration camp survivors brought to Malmoe by count Bernadotte, many of whom were so weak they died shortly after arrival.   On the bench a yard away sat the only other persons in the cemetery -- 2 Arab teens rocking their skate-boards back and forth under their feet and eyeing me with a bored half-curiosity..."

"The [Obummer regime] has used yet another sleight-of-hand maneuver in the visa process to get aliens here more quickly and to expand the legal alien workforce substantially.   The latest legally dubious executive action allows a large number of aliens who have been sponsored for a green card, but who are still years away from obtaining it due to the numerical limits of the law, to instead receive work permits and travel documents.   These individuals will have permission to work and travel in the United States -- de facto permanent residency -- even before their applications have been reviewed, and in defiance of the numerical limits and orderly process set by congress.   To say that the basic action is complex is an understatement.   The whole picture is further complicated by the fact that the new process was announced in one form one day and curtailed shortly thereafter, to the discomfort of some aliens (and their lawyers) who had sought to apply under the first-announced rule.   (Because of the correction, some immigration lawyers -- never content with a major victory -- are suing the government for still looser rules.)   The new rule is confined to aliens who have successfully been sponsored for permanent resident alien (PRA) status, and are waiting for the opportunity to submit their final applications.   The final application stage is significant.   It is the point at which an application is scrutinized for eligibility, including criminal and medical records, financial support, fraud, and other critical factors.   The final application is neither a technicality nor a formality, as supporters of this action would have us believe; it is the key moment in the process, the equivalent to the road test in a driver's license application.   There are a very large number of people awaiting the final application stage, many of whom are already in the United States...   It is important to note that the law does not permit these benefits to be given out until someone's green card or immigrant visa is 'immediately available' (see INA section 245(a)(3)).   The [Obummer regime] has decided that 'immediately available' means the same as 'available in a few years, or whatever we feel like'.   Who Benefits? The most vocal defenders of this action are Indian and Chinese citizens who were admitted in large numbers as temporary guestworkers on H-1B visas, and who have been given extensions after the expiration of their temporary visas because they are applying for a green card, but who must remain with their sponsoring employer until the green card is approved.   Although admitted as temporary workers, most of these individuals wanted to stay permanently -- and the number green cards issued each year is much smaller than the number of H-1Bs (plus family members, which grows over time), leading to a long back-log.   Further, many of these guestworkers complain vociferously that they are underpaid and exploited by their employers who sponsored them as H-1Bs, so they should be allowed to compete (with Americans and legal immigrants) for other jobs in the economy.   And they believe that their spouses and children should also have the right to work here, even before the green card is approved..."

"The resignation of establishment Republican [RINO] speaker of the House John Boehner is viewed as a victory for conservatives and a major defeat for Boehner's cronies in the Washington [DC] political establishment.   However, grass-roots conservatives remain in a white hot fury with the GOP's failed [losership], and merely rearranging the titles of Boehner's allies isn't going to mollify them.   The root of this conservative fury isn't the Capitol Hill GOP [losers'] minimal communications skills and lack of legislative victories -- leadership requires no legislative success.   Conservatives didn't win the Panama Canal Treaty battle, but its leaders inside and outside of congress became the leaders of the Reagan Revolution.   Lack of legislative success is a scarecrow to explain away the fact that today's GOP [losers] don't fight, let alone win, because they don't see values worth fighting for in the conservative agenda.   Quite simply, they are not us.   They're not outraged about Planned Parenthood selling the body parts of dismembered babies.   They're not outraged by the endless spending, deficit and debt -- they enable it.   They're not outraged about the invasion of our country by people from South and Central America.   They're not outraged by the rape of boys by our Afghan 'allies', and the cashiering from the military of an honest [US citizen] who was outraged.   They are not outraged by the Muslim extermination of Christians in the Middle East.   They are not outraged by the war on religion and believers of all faiths, but especially Christians, right here in [the USA].   And where is the outrage on Capitol Hill over the abandonment of [the USA's] global leadership, the many foreign policy failures of [Barack Hussein Obummer and Hitlery Rotten Clinton] and the complete contempt for [the USA] shown by the leaders of Russia and [Red China]?   Margaret Thatcher once said to win the vote you must first win the argument.   And you can't win the argument if you don’t lead against the Democrats every day.   Yet you never hear or see the Republican Party's [losers] speaking up on the issues that grass-roots America is talking about -- Rush, Mark Levin, Eric Ericson, Laura Ingraham and we here at CHQ are speaking up, but the Republican Party's Capitol Hill [losers] are not...   And that's the silver lining to the incompetence and fecklessness of today's Republican [losers] -- every time they surrender before the battle even begins they motivate another principled limited government constitutional conservative to file in their Republican congressional primary, like Becky Gerritson has in Alabama-2 (against incumbent Martha Roby), like Frank Roche and Jim Duncan have in NC-2 (against incumbent Renee Ellmers) and like Russell Ramsland is contemplating in TX-32 (against incumbent Pete Sessions).   The resignation of John Boehner is a good start, but until a whole new generation of conservative leaders takes the reins on Capitol Hill, stands for conservative principles, shares our outrage and fights on issues like de-funding Planned Parenthood, stopping [unconstitutional and illegal] executive amnesty, [eradicating ObummerDoesn'tCare,] securing the border and bringing the endless spending, deficit and debt to a close the outrage will only grow and the Republican Party will remain a house divided."

"I receive loads of mail in response to my weekly nationally syndicated column.   Some recent mail has been quite disturbing.   Here's a sample: 'Given your support of freedom on a great many issues, I wish to bring to your attention the following George Mason University staff who have formally called on the president to use RICO statutes to punish organizations and individuals who dispute the consensus of the [UN IPCC]'.   The writer goes on to say, 'I am appalled that anyone associated with George Mason would so misuse the power of the Federal government.'   The writer names 20 signatories, 6 of whom are GMU faculty members.   This letter writer's problem, like that of many others, is a misperception of George Mason University, where I am an economics professor.   We have a distinguished economics department that can boast of having had two homegrown Nobel Prize winners on our faculty.   Plus, we have a worldwide reputation as a free market economics department.   The university can also boast of a distinguished law school with professors who, in contrast with many other law schools, have respect for the United States Constitution and the rule of law.   We can boast of the excellent Law & Economics Center, too.   With this kind of intellectual fire-power at George Mason University, most people assume that it is like its namesake, a libertarian or free market university.   Little could be further from the truth.   My university, at which I've toiled for 35 years, has a political make-up like that of most other universities -- middle of the road to [leftist].   What distinguishes my liberal/progressive colleagues is that they are courteous and civilized, unlike many of those at universities such as the University of Massachusetts and the University of California, Berkeley.   So I investigated this call for the use of RICO, or the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.   It turns out that senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), has called for the criminal investigation of people and organizations who are seen as global warming deniers.   This would include law-suits against the coal and oil industries, certain think tanks, and other organizations that question the global warming religion.   BTW, [in a feeble attempt to try to make the] Whitehouse and his gang [look not quite so silly], they've changed their concern from global warming to climate change.   That's stupid in and of itself, for when has the climate not been changing, even before mankind arrived?...   The global warming agenda is a desperate effort to gain greater control over our lives.   Political commentator Henry Louis Mencken (1880-1956) explained that 'the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.'   That's the political goal of the global warmers."

"Using preliminary numbers, the Associated Press reports that deportations are down to the lowest level in nearly a decade.   As you can see from the graphic, deportations (or, strictly speaking, removals attributed to US ICE rather than to the Border Patrol) grew significantly under [Shrub] (as they had under Clinton), initially plateaued under [Barack Hussein Obummer], and are now collapsing.   Though the partial FY2015 number reported by the AP is new, this has been building for a couple of years; deportations have fallen 42% since 2012.   My colleague Jessica Vaughan reported on this last year.   The operational reason for the collapse in deportations is the [Obummer regime's] enforcement-suppression policies, which it has labeled 'prosecutorial discretion'.   The White House has claimed that, given limited resources, it's focusing only on the worst of the worst among criminal aliens.   But then why have even criminal deportations been declining?   They can't blame this on sanctuary cities, because as bad as they are, the number of criminals they're shielding from deportation isn't big enough to account for such a steep decline in numbers.   The AP reporter was engaging in gratuitous spin on behalf of the [Obummer regime] when she wrote, in her own voice, that: 'The decline suggests the [regime] has been failing to find criminal immigrants in the U.S.A. interior, or that fewer immigrants living in the U.S.A. illegally had criminal records serious enough to justify deporting them.'   As they say on Twitter, HAHAHAHAHAHA!   The [Obummer regime] hasn't been 'failing to find criminal immigrants', nor have non-citizens suddenly become more law-abiding.   Instead, the White House has essentially prohibited immigration agents from doing their jobs, which is a big part of why DHS employee morale is so low.   The administration's own spin is that more of the illegals arrested at the border are non-Mexican, and it takes longer to deport them.   Except that it's letting them all go and deporting almost none of them.   In short, the drop in deportations is a policy choice made by the White House, not some development out of its control..."

"Here's the situation: An illegal alien (let's say the alien is male) is about to be deported, but he seeks a waiver on the grounds that such a move would bring an 'extreme hardship to his citizen wife' so he should be allowed to stay.   OK, but what if the wife dies?   What if she dies and the illegal has re-married?   Can the hardship on the former (and now dead) wife be used to seek the waiver that will allow him to stay?   One would think not.   The former and now dead wife is as immune to hardships as she is to the joys of life.   But in the administration's efforts to tear down our borders, in all ways small and large, it has included in a proposed policy manual a provision where the illegal alien in these circumstances can still argue that his forced departure should be cancelled because of the hardship on the wife who is now dead.   As the humor writer Dave Barry says, 'I am not making this up.'..."

Glancy, a law professor who teaches the seminar, asks students to spend a semester researching and writing a paper on a privacy-law topic that interests them.   Max Schrems, an Austrian student at Santa Clara for the spring semester of 2011, heard a FB guest speaker discuss the company's privacy rules and realized that Europe's laws for handling personal information on-line were much stricter than those in the United States.   Mr. Schrems then wrote about how FB's privacy rules did not match Europe's standards for personal information.   Upon returning to Austria, Mr. Schrems formed an organization that challenged FB's privacy policies in Ireland, where the company's European business is based...   many law students interested in getting a leg up in the current distressed legal job market want to get real skills training..."

Do they have the guts to go up against the teachers union if that's what it takes?   How will they address America's mountainous debt?   I know that this is only a very small tip of a very large iceberg, but these and many other questions need to be answered by the candidates for American voters to cast a well-informed vote..."

"Poll after poll in the past few months has shown Donald Trump on top of the Republican presidential race.   Likewise, Ben Carson has risen steadily since the first debate two months ago and Carly Fiorina has similarly used debate exposure to go from virtually zero to third place in the Real Clear Politics average with 10.4% support.   Added together, the 3 non-politician 'outsider' candidates tally just a shade over 50% of the polling average.   With the leaves turning in October, that's fairly deep into the process for candidates who've never won an election before to be leading for a major party nomination.   But their impressive popularity now won't necessarily translate to victory in February and March, because campaign infrastructure matters.   Erick Erickson says even Jesus had a ground game and there's much more that goes into actually getting votes than soundbites and media advertising.   '...advertisements do not draw out the bulk of people.   Door to door increases turn out.   Voters who are called on the phone by a live human being and encouraged to vote are more likely to vote than those who just see ads.   Voters who actually have someone show up at their door face to face are the most likely to vote for a candidate.   Those ground games matter...   In 2000 and 2004, the Bush team used real, daily metrics on doors knocked and voters reached to build up a name by name database of people committed to vote.   The math is doable down to the precinct level to know how many voters across the country in each precinct a candidate needs.   Then the campaign can send out a field team and get those commitments.'   All of that takes money – a lot of it.   Volunteers make up a vital part of every presidential campaign, but you've still got to pay people to coordinate them, tabulate data, etc.   If there's a limit on how far the 'outsiders' can go it will most likely be because their ground games don't match those of the 'professional' politicians in the race.   [It is something] to remember. And it will favor someone like Ted Cruz going into 2016..."
But before the volunteers will get active, before the enthusiasm can make a difference, you have to have candidates people expect to be willing and able to do good things -- not just "get things done", but get good things done, and stop bad things from being done.

"The sudden implosion of the supposedly inevitable ascension of establishment Republican House majority-leader Kevin McCarthy to the office of speaker of the House, now occupied by his mentor John Boehner, has shown the Capitol Hill Republican establishment to be a fragile edifice ready to collapse.   Conservatives should not be suckered into propping it up any longer by abandoning their battle to elect principled conservatives to run the House of Representatives.   But that is exactly what is going on in Washington right now as those establishment politicians who stand to lose out if new leadership is elected and cleans house scramble desperately to hang on to their corner offices and their power to divide up the spoils the welfare state extorts from producers.     A number of names have been floated as potential 'compromise' speakers: Paul Ryan of Wisconsin is the candidate most often touted by the Washington political class as the ideal 'compromise' speaker, but Representatives Lyn Westmoreland, Mike Conaway, Jeff Miller, Tom Cole, Pete Sessions and Tom Price are also in the mix, according to our Capitol Hill sources.   We strongly urge conservatives to stand fast behind principled limited government constitutional conservative Daniel Webster of Florida [even though he is very weak on some issues], and not allow themselves to be suckered into backing a 'compromise' candidate for speaker who will continue the policies of Boehner and McCarthy and keep their anti-conservative staff in place.   Conservatives who fold and back a 'compromise' speaker will own the results of that speaker's policies and find that they are boxed-in and unable to effectively oppose a new anti-conservative leader they helped elect.     And this is particularly true of Paul Ryan, whom many conservatives once thought of as a rising conservative star, because of his image as being a pro-life family man and his 'reform conservative' style budget ideas, but who has in reality abandoned conservative principles to push amnesty for illegal aliens, the Trans-Pacific Partnership [TPP], breaking the budget caps and many other anti-conservative policies.   As we explained in our article 'Paul Ryan: Now the Ugly Face of the GOP Establishment', the Paul Ryan of today is anything but a principled limited government constitutional conservative.   How Paul Ryan went from budget-balancing conservative wunderkind, to GOP vice presidential nominee, to channeling Nancy Pelosi when he snarled, 'It's declassified and made public once it's agreed to', as he tried to sell [Obummer's] Trade Promotion Authority [TPA] and Trans-Pacific Partnership [TPP] treaties to skeptical conservatives during a Rules committee meeting is one of Washington's saddest tales of how DC's inside elite capture talent and bend it to their will.       As Ryan became more visible, first as ranking-member and then as chairman of the Budget committee he became part of a group who styled themselves the 'young guns' of the House Republican Conference.   Eric Cantor, Kevin McCarthy and Paul Ryan were visualized as a new generation of Republican leader who would challenge the older establishment-types.       Yet, after the 2010 Tea Party wave election that returned Republicans to the majority in the House, and vaulted Cantor, Ryan and McCarthy to leadership position in that new majority, what the conservative voters who turned-out to make that majority possible [got] was a series of lies about the budget and spending, 'me-too' Republicanism and not even a scaling back of the Democratic agenda.   Republicans, who had had promised $100G in real cuts during the campaign, compromised with the Democrats for $38.5G in [possible, phantasmic] future savings and claimed the deal would result in 'the biggest annual spending cut in history', as [president Obummer] termed it.   Yet, as then-senator Jim DeMint later noted, there was no actual reduction in spending.     Here's what really happened when the fiscal year ended on 2011 September 30: the Congressional Budget Office [CBO] found that the April deal to avoid a government shut-down resulted in an increase of more than $170G in federal spending from 2010 to 2011.     Hailed by leaders of both political parties (and the establishment media) as a historic compromise that produced the 'largest spending cut in history', the deal negotiated by Paul Ryan ended up being a spending increase.     No one on the outside seemed to notice the lie upon which the spending deal was founded, because everyone on the inside, and especially Paul Ryan, knew there would be no decrease in spending. And the historic 'budget cuts' would actually result in the federal government spending $3.6T -- a 4.2% increase in outlays that also ballooned the annual deficit to $1.298T.     Yet Paul Ryan's star continued to rise and when Mitt Romney chose him as his running mate in 2012 many conservatives embraced the Ryan choice as an opportunity to place one of their own in line for the presidency and in the near term have a key spokesman for the conservative agenda in the inner circle of the decidedly non-conservative Romney campaign.     What conservatives got from vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan was pretty much the same as they got from Budget committee chairman Paul Ryan -- someone who out of the camera's eye told them he was a 'young gun', but who failed to move the Romney campaign to the right, or to even get it to embrace his own ideas, while he readily went along and got along with Romney's listless content-free establishment Republican ideas and campaign.     Why would conservatives 'compromise' and hand the speaker's gavel to a younger, more aggressive, more articulate, more arrogant version of John Boehner?     It is the House Republican establishment who are blocking the will of the people, not conservatives, such as the House Freedom Caucus members, who are fighting to elect a transformational leader, like Daniel Webster of Florida, as speaker.     Those conservatives who saw Paul Ryan and his fellow 'young guns' as the vanguard of a new conservative House, or who think some 'compromise' candidate for speaker is a viable alternative to continuing the fight to elect a principled limited government constitutional conservative as speaker, might profit from recalling the ending of George Orwell's _Animal Farm_, 'The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.'"
So, maybe we're hoping to find a "purple squirrel", i.e. a great libertarianish, classical liberal, principled, consistent leader knowledgeable, willing, an able to use every rule to advantage to reverse the leftist encroachments of the last century and more, and to make genuine progress in restoring a constitutional government with respect for natural inividual rights; the powers specifically delegated by those individuals to the local, state and federal government; and nothing more -- to eliminating over-spending; eliminating unconstitutional spending; to eliminating power-madness and intrusion into state and local and individual matters; to cutting taxes; to paying down the federal government debt; to making student, exchange, guest-work and permanent residence visas more selective (not by race or ethnicity, not by simple credentials, but by intelligence, knowledgeableness, creativity, filtering out those inclined to initiate force and fraud of a simple criminal sort and terroristic)...   But, in any case, we should be carefully choosing the very best we can discover -- as leaders in all 3 branches and as immigrants.
