And a serious house cleaning is desperately needed at Foggy Bottom.
 
The State Department has about 7,600 Foreign Service officers and 11K civil servants according to NYTimes and around 1K of them recently put their names to a harshly worded letter criticizing president Trump's executive order pausing entry of purported refugees and other visa holders from Iraq, Iran, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Libya and Yemen from entering the United States of America for at least 90 days.
 
Foreign Service officers are not supposed to criticize American policy publicly, yet by sharing the letter with the media that is exactly what these disloyal public employees are doing.
 
What's more, the reasons for the pause in immigration from the seven countries are largely matters related to the failures of the diplomatic corps under the Obummer/Clinton/Kerry foreign policy to which they are apparently wedded.
 
Yemen, Syria, Sudan and especially Libya all became failed states on their watch, and the situation in Somalia has spiraled further into tribal and Islamist chaos during the Obummer years.
 
The signers of the letter seem to forget that Somalia became a failed state during Bill Clinton's presidency and while Hillary Clinton was secretary of State thousands of completely [unvetted/unscrutinized/uninvestigated/unscreened] Somalians were brought to the United States of America courtesy of the [USA tax-victim] to commit dozens of terrorism-related crimes.
 
Back in 2012 Obummer's Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told the senate Intelligence committee that, 'Iran's intelligence operations against the United States of America, including cyber capabilities, have dramatically increased in recent years in depth and complexity.'   Yet the Obama State Department, led by secretaries of State Clinton and Kerry made it vastly easier for Iranians to travel to the United States of America.
 
Iran's intelligence service includes 30K people who are engaged in covert and clandestine activities that range from spying to stealing technology to terrorist bombings and assassination, according to a Pentagon report reviewed by our friend Bill Gertz.
 
The report concluded that Iran's Ministry of Intelligence and Security, known as MOIS, is 'one of the largest and most dynamic intelligence agencies in the Middle East'.
 
Iran's intelligence is also cooperating with al Qaeda despite the Sunni-Shiite differences in religious ideology.   'Cooperation between Iran and al-Qaeda is based on their shared opposition to USA hegemony in the region—Iraq and Afghanistan, chiefly—and dates to the 1990s.', the report said according to Gertz.
 
'Iranians engage in two types of terrorist attacks.', the report said.   'One type includes sabotage, espionage, and bombing of target locations, while the other involves the assassination of dissidents of the Islamic Republic of Iran.   Both are perpetrated inside and outside of Iran.'
 
Between 1979 December and 1996 May, a total of 17 Iranians were assassinated by the MOIS, including the 1980 July murder in Bethesda, MD, of Ali Tabatabaei, the Iranian Embassy press attaché in the United States of America under the Shah of Iran.
 
However, according to some 1K of our career diplomats and State Department employees, we need more Iranians in the United States of America, because after all, foreign travelers inject nearly $250G into the American economy and support more than 1M [low-paying] jobs.
 
Asked to respond to the letter, White House press secretary Sean Spicer had a stern message for State Department employees opposed to President Trump's executive order banning immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries: 'Either get with the program or they can go.'
 
Sean Spicer was right, and secretary of State Rex Tillerson's first order of business at the State Department should be to eliminate the Fifth Column in his own building by showing the door to the signers of the letter criticizing President Trump's executive order pausing travel from terrorist hot-spots to the United States of America."

"After successfully delivering the secret knock and password, a beleaguered, unshaven older man walks into the bunker, stomping out the cold from his feet on the way in.   He walks over to one of the garbage-can fires, where his younger yet battle-hardened comrades are gathered, strategizing about the fight to come.   As the grizzled veteran rubs his hands over the flames, his eyes glinting in the firelight, he says to them, wistfully, 'You know, supreme court nomination fights weren't always like this.'   It's not quite that bad yet in Washington, but the year is young and the fight over Neil Gorsuch, president Trump's nominee for the supreme court, has just begun.   Whenever there is a supreme court vacancy, a preemptive wave of exhaustion comes over me.   It's the same arguments every time.   Some process arguments migrate from one party to another depending on which side is on defense or offense.   'The nominee deserves a speedy hearing and confirmation.', each side yells when their guy is in the White House.   'We have an obligation to take the advise-and-consent role seriously and cannot rush the process.', each side insists when the other team controls the White House.   Each party has an endless supply of quotes to throw at the other, proving their hypocrisy...
Nominations of judges have become more contentious because more and more judges violate their oath of office by eschewing the plain language of the USA constitution and laws, the published reasoning of the founders, to advance their own agendas.   In doing so, they exercise power the constitution does not recognize.   And, in doing so, they intrude into individuals' lives in ways the founders never intended, making each criminal case and law-suit more of a live-or-die, prosperity-or-poverty, productivity-or-extractive matter.   This, in turn, has piled up more and more incentives for more disputes to be dragged through the courts and prosperity for more sheisters, while impoverishing and harming the health and prosperity of many others.
 
Of course, each nominee should be thoroughly investigated, for competence and ethics (not just the somewhat bizarre "legal ethics", but actual, person-to-person ethics). But that should not be artificially dragged out, either.
 
As to Merrick Garland, he was properly considered by Republicans (classical liberals and RINOS) and promptly rejected as corrupt before interviews in open committee were scheduled. Robert Bork was a hybrid case in which the Dems/Reds/Leftists rejected him before the hearings, held the hearings as a publicity and campaign event, and badgered him over non-sense until Bork and the Republicans gave up. Note, that, as Jonah G. recognizes, the Leftists/Reds/Dems did not reject him because he would violate his oath of office, but because he would NOT violate his oath of office in order to advance their agenda, but would keep his oath and block their agenda.
 
If forced to fix blame on the primary cause of this mess, it was some time around 1900, when regressive judges started issuing opinions and verdicts in contradiction to the USA constitution and the facts of the case. Yes, the USA constitution does explicitly recognize the right to privacy. No, it has little to do with abortion; it was simply abused as a flimsy pretext, when more substantive arguments might even have served to support abortion within certain limitations within the constitution and laws and more generally agreed on by the public...jgo

"Donald Trump is about to get a tough test of his presidential leadership, with no true-or-false or multiple choice questions.   Every new president gets the test, usually administered by international creeps and bad guys.   There's no fudging the answers.   Reality is the teacher, grading on a steep curve, and presidents pass or fail.   There's no soft grading.   Iran is determined to build the Islamic bomb, and the mullahs got [Barack Hussein Obummer's] number [or complicity] early on.   Two days after a different kind of president took the oath of office, Iran welcomed him by firing a medium-range ballistic missile believed capable of carrying a nuclear weapon, in defiance of United Nations Resolution 2231 which endorsed [Obummer's] one-sided 'deal' with Iran.   The missile traveled 630 miles, well within range of inviting targets, before [being destroyed by the ground crew].   The Iranian government said the test was a success.   A series of tests last year, conducted by Iran's Revolutionary Guard, caused the usual international concern.   Several of the missiles bore the favorite threat of the mullahs, in this case with the slogan painted on the missile in Hebrew, of 'death to Israel'.   This, too, was considered by several of the signatories of [Obummer's 'deal'] with the mullahs to be in violation of Resolution 2231.   President [Obummer's 'deal'] with Iran [claims to be] meant to restrain the mullahs' nuclear-weapons attempt to build the Islamic bomb, but in fact [seems to be constructed to help and encourage their efforts to manufacture nuclear weapons and delivery systems].   The UN resolution 'calls upon Iran not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using such ballistic-missile technology'.   The mullahs were once barred from developing ballistic missiles, but [Obummer] softened the restrictive language during negotiations [instead resulting in a 'deal' encouraging Iran to develop nuclear weapons and delivery systems].   These were some of the negotiations that president Trump, as a candidate, scorned as the work of stupid people [or perhaps they were simply bright but gullible or malevolent]...   Mark Twain observed that 'action speaks louder than words, but not nearly as often', and there's a growing consensus in the USA senate that Mark Twain's observation is a perfect description of the Iran policy [Obummer] bequeathed to his successor.   Lots of talk, with lots of wiggle room, with a minimum of positive action..."

1M deportations sound would be a good start, and would take care of many, but not all, of the initiators of force and fraud, while minimally encouraging other illegal aliens to leave voluntarily before being arrested. 5M deportations would be a righteous middling effort, worthy of praise, getting rid of the lesser criminals and encouraging their relatives and associates whose only crime was illegal entry or visa-overstay to leave, while encouraging others to leave voluntarily before arrest. 8M is a range beginning to be very difficult, but probably worth some additional effort to sort out the illegal aliens from their legally-resident extended relatives, etc., while encouraging others to leave voluntarily before arrest and extending some generosity to the most worthy. To reach the total of 12M-30M illegal aliens would be so extremely costly and difficult to sort out that it is merely a fond hope combined with generosity...jgo
