"Well, it's finally happened -- someone has decided to legally challenge the egregious actions of Disney when it fired American workers and replaced them with foreign H-1B workers whom they had to train before being shoved out the door.   You'll recall that Disney owns abc, which on its nightly national news program regularly touts the values of keeping the economy vibrant and Americans fully employed by buying American, with its 'Made in America' segments.   The use (actually, mostly misuse and abuse) of 'H' visa programs, for [workers with varied skill-sets and skill levels], is a festering sore on the American economy by depressing wages and keeping Americans unemployed and underemployed.   Our government has much responsibility for this state of affairs, given its profligate handling of the programs.   They give away these visas like a drunken sailor does his coins while on a portside bender...   the decent jobs are going to foreigners willing to work for less and under sub-standard conditions.   More ironic than the [Obummer regime's] double standard is that many of our erstwhile 'conservative' politicians, including those campaigning for president, have dabbled their hands in this unsavory stewpot and found creative ways to legislate increases in 'temporary' worker programs (such as slipping provisions unnoticed and unheralded into massive omnibus budget bills), while at the same time touting their sympathy for the common man and promoting their adamant stance against illegal immigration...because illegal aliens take American jobs.   Do they realize the disconnect in their stances, or do they think we're so mind-numbingly foolish as not to see it?   But back to the law-suit.   This one is well worth watching, for 2 reasons:   First, it has the makings of a class action, meaning that everyone wronged by Disney's actions may be permitted by the court to participate.   And where a 900-pound-gorilla like Disney is concerned, that pile-it-on factor may make the difference, because although Disney is all kindness and treacle at the front door, it has a bare knuckles reputation in the back corridors of its amusement parks where the employees are to be found.   Second, and most noteworthy, the law-suit is being filed as a racketeering action under the civil federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) statute, which can be found at 18 U.S.C. Section 1964.   This provision allows each individual harmed to collect triple damages as well as legal costs.   Those costs could mount up pretty quickly, especially in a class-action suit.   But any potential payout pales compared with Disney's profits.   The real harm will be to the company's prestige (and, consequently, its stock value) if it is found to have engaged in racketeering to cut Americans out of their jobs."

"some young illegal migrants from Central America are being mistreated and exploited on at least one industrial poultry farm in Ohio.   The story is that some teenage illegal migrants from Central America, once in federal custody, were turned over to exploitative labor agents -- all with Hispanic names -- and were then exploited on factory farms.   They were forced to work long hours and housed under terrible conditions.   Had the teens stayed home, or had they been handled differently by our government, the exploitation would not have happened...   the owners of the factory farm, Trillium Farms, said that what had happened was not their fault, it was something that the labor contractors had done.   This has been the favorite excuse of agribusiness for decades.   One of Carlos' jobs was 'de-beaking hens', a process the urban paper did not explain.   As one who grew up on a farm with several hundred un-debeaked chickens during WW2, I realize why a farmer would want de-beaked chickens -- so that they do not kill each other.   One of my early morning tasks was to pick up the bloody, hen-pecked carcasses of 1 or 2 of our Leghorns who had been killed by her colleagues during the night.   Our Plymouth Rocks did not do that to each other.   But I digress.   What's new in the situation is the technique used by the traffickers to secure new workers.   They would go to detention centers for the illegal aliens and ask for the release of the teenagers on the grounds that they were friends of the family.   The article indicates that these applications were not vetted closely, if at all, and frequently no finger-prints were taken of the 'friends'..."

"...In 2003, when [Obummer] was a 42-year-old state senator and rising Democrat star in Illinois, he delivered a gushing address at a farewell gala for Rashid Khalidi.   At the time, Khalidi taught international studies and Middle Eastern studies at the University of Chicago, where [Obummer] served as a law school lecturer.   Khalidi is now an Arab Studies professor at Columbia University and directs the school's federally subsidized Middle East Institute named after his anti-Israel, Blame America mentor, Arab academic Edward Said.   In the 1970s, Palestinian-American Khalidi was quoted extensively as a de facto mouth-piece for Yasser Arafat and his State Department-designated terrorist outfit, the Palestinian Liberation Organization.   Khalidi denies any official PLO role, but veteran journalist Martin Kramer compiled an extensive laundry list of articles and attributions describing Khalidi as 'a PLO spokesman', 'a director of the Palestinian press agency [Wafa]' (where his wife, Mona, also worked), and 'an American-educated Palestinian who teaches political science at the American University of Beirut and also works for the PLO'.   Khalidi and his wife founded the Arab American Action Network, which as David Horowitz's DiscoverTheNetworks.org reported, was 'noted for its view that Israel's creation in 1948 was a catastrophe for Arab people'.   The group received money from the left-wing Woods Foundation, whose board included Obama and Weather Underground convicted domestic terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn.   The Khalidis, [Obummers], and Ayers and Dohrn were a cozy little circle of soft-on-terror apologists in Chicago, dining frequently at each other's homes and funding each other's pet causes.   All were in attendance at the confab for Khalidi in 2003, a tape of which was obtained by the Los Angeles Times in 2008.   Despite a clamor from conservative bloggers and independent scholars and anti-jihad analysts, the paper refused to release the video-tape.   'Why is the Los Angeles Times sitting on a video-tape of the 2003 farewell bash in Chicago at which [Barack Hussein Obummer] lavished praise on the guest of honor, Rashid Khalidi -- former mouth-piece for master terrorist Yasser Arafat?', former New York anti-terrorism prosecutor Andrew McCarthy asked.   'Is there just a teeny-weenie chance that this was an evening of Israel-bashing Obama would find very difficult to explain?   Could it be that the Times, a pillar of the [Obummedia], is covering for its guy?'   Blogger Jim Hoft summed up the double standards on disclosure and vetting succinctly in 2011: 'LA Times Won't Release Obama-Khalidi Tape But Posts 24K Sarah Palin E-mails'.   After Breitbart News offered a $100K reward for access to the tape, the Times condescendingly lashed out against the 'Khalidi video mythology', refused to release even just a full transcript of the event, and insisted that we should all just trust and thank them for controlling the narrative.   Because journalism!   This is transparency, liberal media-style: Teen Cruz video goes viral.   Terror-coddler [Obummer] video gets deep-sixed.   As always, selective media coverage of our politicians' pasts reveals more than it conceals."

"The occupation of a remote wild-life refuge turned violent yesterday when federal agents stopped 2 vehicles carrying protesters to a town hall meeting in John Day, Oregon.   Victoria Sharp, a passenger in one of those vehicles, has reported that federal agents opened fire on the group without provocation after conflicting and confusing demands for the protesters to surrender.   Sharp reported that shots were first fired at Ryan Payne as he complied with orders to show his hands out of the window of the vehicle in which she was riding, but that the shots missed.   Payne was calling for police to not shoot, as there were women in the vehicle, and exited the vehicle, asking that the women be allowed out.   At this point, LaVoy Finicum, one of the spokesmen for the occupiers, who was driving the vehicle in which Ms. Sharp was riding, yelled out the window that they were going to go talk to the sheriff (at the meeting in John Day), or that agents could just shoot him.   He told the passengers to get down, and drove forward, precipitating heavy gun-fire from the agents, and crashing the vehicle into a snow-bank.   Sharp said that Finicum then exited the vehicle, hands in the air, yelling, 'Just shoot me then!'   A volley of shots rang out, and Finicum fell to his back, hands still over his head, and was shot several more times on the ground, Sharp said.   According to Sharp, agents continued shooting at the car, striking Ryan Bundy in the shoulder as he shielded her on the floor-board, and deploying tear gas before finally taking the rest of the group into custody.   She also claims that none of the protesters fired a shot or even touched a gun during the encounter.   The full audio of Victoria Sharp's account is posted on YouTube..."

"The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced its 'Blue Campaign', an effort to make the general public and, more importantly, individuals in key positions aware of human trafficking -- 'first responders', 'law enforcement', 'educators', even federal 'acquisition officers' (for reasons they explain on their web-site).   This is a 'close the barn door after the horses have left' exercise in embarrassment mitigation...   Neither DHS nor Health and Human Services (HHS), most especially its Office of Refugee Re-settlement (ORR) arm, comes out looking very good since these minors were given to traffickers due to the administration's insane practice of handing over such minors based on the most minimal of information and security measures even in the best of times.   This minimal practice was pretty much abandoned in the administration's drive to eliminate the border surge from the front pages by dispersing them as quickly as possible throughout the country to ORR 're-settlement' contractors, who then push them out the door and onward to 'relatives', who in this case proved to be the ones responsible for putting the minors to forced labor on behalf of an agribusiness.   Note, however, that none of the primary offenders in this shove-them-along saga appear to be recipients of the 'Blue Campaign' training: no mention of HHS or ORR or its contractors being given human trafficking training, which it would appear that they sorely need...   the abuse was finally stopped after raids by the FBI -- not DHS Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents, who are a part of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).   As has been discussed before in prior postings by myself and Jessica Vaughan, HSI has pretty much abandoned the "immigration" part of its mission.   It conducts a minimal amount of anti-smuggling/human trafficking work these days; audits of, and enforcement actions against, employers who hire or abuse illegal alien workers are near non-existent; and little or no attempt is made at compliance programs directed toward the huge number of visa over-stays or, more troubling from a national security perspective, foreign students..."

"We published a posting about the American College of Commerce and Technology, Falls Church, VA, in August 2014 saying, among other things, that while the organization was licensed by the Department of Homeland Security to teach foreign students, it was not accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.   This week we received the following from ACCT, which we reprint verbatim:   'I am the representative of American College of Commerce and Technology(ACCT).   We noticed that there is a passage on your website which says that ACCT is unaccredited.   However ACCT had been accredited April 2015.   Your report had brought bad influence to our school.   Could you help us delete the report or do some necessary modify?   The following link are your report and the prove from ACICS.'     The link was to our 2014 posting, 'Should a School with a Financial Statement Like This Be Authorized to Teach Accounting to Foreign Students?'.   I could not find 'the prove from ACICS', but that entity's web-site shows the accreditation.   In that post, we pointed out that the chief executive of ACCT had signed off on a financial report, filed with the Commonwealth of Virginia, that managed to spell the word 'interest' 4 different ways in the course of five lines of type and included some highly puzzling financial reporting.   More than half a year passed after our blog was published before the accreditation was secured, and another nine months passed before ACCT called it to our attention.   For the record, it now has accreditation from the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS).   Accreditation by this organization has also been extended to, among others, 3 institutions (not apparently connected to ACCT) that have been in the news recently.   There is Herguan University -- once raided by Homeland Security investigators -- whose founder, former owner, former president, and former CEO, Jerry Wang, has been sent to jail for immigration fraud, as noted here and here.   The other 2 entities, both in the San Francisco Bay Area, are Silicon Valley University and Northwestern Polytechnic University, both of which have complained that some of the aliens they admitted as students have been turned back by immigration inspectors at USA airports, or denied the right to board Air India planes headed for San Francisco.   NPU's top executive, incidentally, also signed off on a financial report replete with errors, including spelling the name of the university in various ways.   ACCT's web-site indicates that it offers classes in both accounting and in English."
