"...1.   Approximately 61M immigrants and their young children now live in the USA, and the USA currently allows in over one million permanent residents every year.   How much immigration is too much?     2.   [President Barack Hussein Obummer's] immigration policies have advanced through unilateral action -- executive decrees -- which are seen by many as unconstitutional.   Do you believe there is any limit to what a president can do unilaterally on immigration?   (A response from Clinton would be particularly enlightening, as she has said that she would be less 'harsh and aggressive' than [Obummer] in enforcing immigration laws.)     3.   Recently [USA citizens] learned that over 1,800 foreigners with outstanding deportation orders, many from source countries of terrorism, were mistakenly granted citizenship.   Several of these aliens ended up working in security-sensitive fields.   This national security risk occurred because the illegal aliens used different names or birthdates to apply for citizenship, and their fingerprint records had not been digitized.   The finger-prints of as many as 315K illegal aliens with final deportation orders or who are fugitive criminals are missing from federal data-bases.   If our government can't access its own data to vet immigrants already in the country, how do you think we can successfully vet foreigners living in failed states?     4.   Since the nation's founding, USA's motto has been e pluribus unum, 'out of many, one'.   But ongoing mass immigration makes it difficult for assimilation to work.   Do you think the melting pot experience can continue when we bring in massive numbers who do not speak English, have a low education level, and stay together in ethnic enclaves?     5.   During this administration, tens of thousands of convicted criminal aliens were released into USA's neighborhoods because their home countries refused to take them back.   This despite federal law requiring the State Department to stop issuing visas in such uncooperative countries.   These convicted criminal aliens had records that included homicide convictions, sexual assault convictions, aggravated assault convictions, and kidnapping convictions.   Would you allow this to continue?     6.   A new study by the National Academy of Sciences shows that mass immigration drives down annual wages by 5.2% for native-born workers who are in direct competition with immigrants for jobs, while costing [tax-victims] around $299G in public services.   The study found that the net economic benefit of mass immigration is around $55G, but that benefit requires a $500G wage transfer from low-skilled workers to immigrants and businesses.   Has our policy of mass immigration betrayed [USA citizen] workers and [tax-victims], and should immigration be formulated in the best interest of USA citizens or the global order?     7.   Congress has made it clear that immigration enforcement must occur before any further amnesties, so as not to attract new illegal immigration. What will you do about the illegal population presently in the USA?   DACA and DAPA, as well as several other smaller amnesties, have already been [unconstitutionally and illegally] enacted through executive action; are you prepared to amnesty the rest of the illegal population?     8.   The controversial H-1B visa program has received much attention the last few years due to foreign workers replacing Americans in tech positions.   We have seen this at Disney, IBM, Toys 'R' Us, Pfizer, and recently McDonald's -- all of which is permitted under the rules of this visa program.   Will you end the program, and if not, would you change it to prohibit such actions?     9.   There are over 300 jurisdictions in the country that operate as sanctuaries for illegal immigrants.   This has resulted in local authorities releasing thousands of criminal aliens into our communities to commit further crimes.   Do you believe that sanctuary cities should continue to release illegal immigrants with felony records instead of handing them over to federal authorities?"

"Reihan Salam has written an interesting piece in National Review, 'The Right Can Stop Losing on Immigration: Here's What it Will Take', that's worth a look.   In it, he argues for a new strategy, one that:   Uses the power of language to alter the psychological balance (my words, not his) by not permitting open borders and unrestricted immigration advocates to define the boundaries of the immigration debate by tagging so-called 'restrictionists' with pejoratives and negative labels such as 'nativists'; and   Is inclusive enough to encourage long-term legal immigrants and first-generation Americans to join in understanding that unrestricted immigration is not in the best interests of their own families' futures.   There is logic in what he says, and I think that is exactly what the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) represents.   I can say this without blushing, because I am a relatively recent addition to CIS and had no influence in shaping it.   The credit for that goes to others such as Executive Director Mark Krikorian, the Center's Board of Directors, and my colleague Jessica Vaughan and the other permanent staff and fellows.   The phrase 'Low Immigration, Pro Immigrant' is not just a motto; it's taken seriously.   If CIS did not represent inclusiveness I would have little interest in being a part of the organization...."

Maybe I'm a Yankee Doodler (taking what someone intended as an insult and accepting it with pride), but I always took "nativist" as a compliment and neutral at worst, not a "pejorative".   It is another example of leftist spin to attempt to declare and smear a positive to be negative.   "Restrictionists" are reformers, while the no-borders, no-standards gang oppose reform and try to saddle USA with harmful immigration law perversion.   Socialist illfare programs are bad, initiating force as they do.   Personal, private charity and generosity are good.   Yes, we should try to reduce abuse by employers through shunning and persuasion in most cases, but through significant penalties in the egregious cases, especially when employees are being exposed to extreme dangers (and forced to absorb the experienced injuries).   We should try to discourage international gangsters.   The borders should be defended with deadly force, all 1989+5525=7514 or so miles plus 95K shore-lines pluse the territories, 24/7/365.22...

"While my colleagues and I are often critical of the way the Department of Homeland Security handles the enforcement of immigration law, today's posting is a (one-off) hymn of praise to the agency for a burst of creativity regarding an element of the OPT foreign worker program.   OPT stands for Optional Practical Training, which turns alien graduates of USA colleges and universities back into 'students' again and allows them to work, full-time, for up to 3 years after graduation on their F-1 student visas.   OPT, which is operated under administration rules without any congressional authorization, gives employers a substantial bonus for hiring the foreign alumni.   OPT workers are not covered by [unconstitutional Socialist Insecurity or Medicare] taxes, so at substantial cost to these trust funds employers get a de facto bonus of up to $15K for hiring the foreign grad rather than an American one (or an H-1B) at the same salary.   The OPT grads get a similar bonus: the non-payment of pay-roll taxes at the rate of 7.65% a year.   Some phony universities were created by criminals to give OPT credentials to foreign 'students', thus allowing them to work in the States while paying tuition and not attending classes.   After 'graduation', the same students could continue to work with the OPT papers, as we reported on the illegal practices of the University of Northern Virginia and Tri-Valley University.   UNV and Tri-Valley University were genuine phony institutions, in that they really existed and made a bundle on their abilities to create documents for illegal aliens.   In contrast, DHS created a fake phony university, the University of Northern New Jersey, to trap immigration law violators.   What was not immediately apparent (at least not to me) was that this governmental scam would be used to catch operators of OPT programs.   My sense was that it was intended to cause the arrest of criminal middlemen who were using it to illicitly place foreign students into a non-existent university.   One of the 'university's' customers was a small out-placement firm called Right OPT.   Earlier this week, two of three people with Indian names who ran that criminal entity pled guilty to conspiracy to commit visa fraud in the USA District Court for New Jersey; they were Harpreet Sachdeva, 26, and Sanjeev Sukhija, 35, both H-1B visa holders.   The third person indicted, apparently the ring-leader, Narendra Singh Plaha, a naturalized citizen, remains under indictment, but with his 2 former subordinates co-operating with the prosecutors he faces an up-hill battle.   The most recent court records indicate that plea bargaining is under-way.   Right OPT collected fees from about 45 OPT workers, presumably totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars.   It operated from a base in Somerset, in the NJ suburbs.   There is no indication in the PACER files on this court action (it is case 2:16-mj-06044-SCM) that either the OPT workers or their employers were being indicted, just the middlemen.   What should happen, and probably won't, is that the employers should be forced to pay the missing FICA taxes and the OPT workers should be deported."
