If you take a look at the list of the top companies spending money lobbying [against] immigration reform, you'll see a lot of instantly recognizable household names in the world of high tech and consumer electronics like Intel, MSFT, and FB. However, one name won't be familiar to most Americans: a company called Cognizant. Cognizant Technology Solutions is a New Jersey based company that delivers 'IT', consulting, and out-sourcing services [i.e. bodyshopping]. Even though most people have never heard of them, Cognizant is a significant player in the world of H-1B and the politics of immigration reform...and its stock just received a 'buy' rating from 17 of 19 brokerages. Cognizant isn't the only big player in the outsourcing world: other major companies include Infosys, Wipro and Tata... Why are companies like Cognizant spending so much on lobbying? It's simple business: they make a lot more on the H-1B Visa program than they spend on lobbying... As India's GlobalPost reported: '...For Indian workers, a job in the USA means opportunities and money. For the [cross-border bodyshops], the Indian «IT» workers are significantly cheaper than their American counterparts -- by about 25%... Sometimes, it's not just jobs being lost...it's valuable USA trade secrets..."

Barbour himself has been an active voice [against] immigration reform, forming alliances on the issue with figures that most conservatives would find repugnant... One of BGR Group's top current clients is the Republic of India. That's significant to the guest-worker issue because about half of all H-1B visas go to Indian nationals. Turkey warns USA not to hire Turkish teachers for USA Guelen schools through H-1B visa program
"Usually when a foreign government intervenes in the USA labor market it is either to protect the interests of individual foreign workers or to see to it that the USA keeps hiring them in general. But Turkey, through its lawyer, Robert Amsterdam, has just issued a statement saying that a group of Turkish-run charter schools in the United States has been using an American visa scheme: 'that places under-qualified Turkish teachers into key positions in its schools, while simultaneously underpaying its more qualified non-Turkish teachers'. Turkey is not making these statements out of a concern for American students in those schools, or for the American teachers who are not now working because of the hiring of the H-1B teachers from Turkey, or because the [Obummer regime] sought such a statement. It is doing so because of a world-wide struggle between the increasingly authoritarian Turkish government of President Recep Erdogan and the followers of a cult led by Fethullah Gulen, a Muslim cleric living in self-imposed exile in the Poconos. Gulen's followers have used the loosely managed charter school system to create some 150 charter schools of their own in the USA, all of which are 100% funded by local tax dollars, and most of which have unpublicized links to other Gulen entities. Gulen and Erdogan once were allies in Turkey, both seeking to change the pro-Western society created by Kemal Ataturk after World War 1. Gulen's followers were said to be strongly entrenched in law enforcement and in the judiciary, as well as running a number of academic institutions. They fell out a few years ago and Erdogan now regards Gulen's people not just as adversaries, but as terrorists. Bearing that background in mind, I accepted an invitation to attend a Brookings Institute conference in Washington on charter schools a few weeks ago. When the time came for questions, I asked about the peculiar hiring policies of the Gulen schools, and got little in the way of response from the panel. But at a break in the session 3 Turkish participants came to see me, 2 of them from what turned out to be Erdogan-controlled newspapers. They told me that the FBI is investigating the Gulen schools 'for not handling money properly'. The third told me that the other 2 were from Erdogan-related entities. Gulen's tentacles are not confined to Turkey and the USA. His people run schools and other activities in the parts of the Balkans once under Ottoman rule, and in the 'stans of Central Asia, where Turkic influences are strong..."

"In 1789 congress banned slavery from the NorthWest Territory; in 1794 it banned the exportation of slaves from America; in 1808 it banned the importation of slaves into America. But in 1820 Democrats gained control of congress for the first time. They enacted the Missouri Compromise, thus reversing the 1789 policy and allowing slavery into some federal territories where it had been previously prohibited. For the first time slavery was being not just tolerated but officially expanded by the federal government. The Missouri Compromise was strenuously opposed by the few Fouding Fathers still alive at the time. Elias Boudinot, a president of congress during the Revolution and a framer of the Bill of Rights, warned that this new pro-slavery direction by congress would bring 'and end to the happiness of the United States'; a frail John Adams feared that lifting the slavery prohibition would destroy America; James Madison confessed that the new policy 'fills me with no slight anxiety', and foreseeing what would become the Civil War, he worried that pitting slave states against free states woudl result in 'awful shocks against each other'. But perhaps no one from that generation was as greatly distressed as the elderly 77-year-old Jefferson, who was dismayed, frustrated, and even depressed by the passage of that law and the retreat from emancipation that it represented. He lamented, 'In the gloomiest moment of the Revolutionary War, I never had any apprehensions equal to what I feel from this source.' Jefferson confided to a fellow political leader: '...But this momentous question like a fire bell in the night, awakened and filled me with terror. I considered it at once as the knell of the Union... I regret that I am now to die in the belief that the useless sacrifice of themselves by the generation of 1776 to acquire self-government and happiness to their country is to be thrown away by the unwise and unworthy passions of their sons... [This is an] act of suicide on themselves, and of treason against the hopes of the world... The cession of that kind of «property», for so it is misnamed, is a bagatelle which would not cost me a second thought if in that way a general emancipation and expatriation could be effected...
