"Since 1989, the United States has been letting in about 1M new immigrants per year, a level comparable to the last great wave of European immigration at the turn of the 20th Century [shortly after the USA's frontiers had been engulfed shortly before 1890, when there were 3.7M immigrants, 1900 when there were 8.8M, 1910 when there were 5.7M, 1920 when there were 5.1M, 1930 when there were 500K; but only the equivalent of 455,302 green cards were issued in 1890, 560,139 in 1891, 579,663 in 1892, 439,730 in 1893, 285,631 in 1895, 343,267 in 1896, 230,832 in 1897, 229,299 in 1898, 311,715 in 1899, 448,572 in 1900].   The Census Bureau estimates there are now 43.3M foreign-born residents in the United States [of America, as compard with 10.3M in 1900, 13.5M in 1910, 13.9M in 1920, 14.2M in 1930] and within 10 years immigrants will account for 15% of the population, a record high.   [citing census bureau historical statistics and DHS statistical year-books]...   Advocates of limiting immigration disavow these sentiments and say they bear no will toward immigrants.   The best reason to limit immigration, they say, is to give U.S. workers more bargaining power.   Blacks, Hispanics and recent immigrants in particular are vulnerable to competition from new arrivals who are willing to do menial work for lower wages, they say.   'We don't have enough jobs for our lower-skilled [and highly-skilled, and specialized-skills] workers now.   What sense does it make to bring in millions more?', Alabama senator Jeff Sessions, a Republican, wrote in the Washington Post in April.   Sessions had been one of the few public officials calling for a decrease in immigration levels until this spring, when Walker said the United States should consider restricting immigration levels when the economy is struggling and raise them when it is booming.   Walker has yet to release a formal immigration plan.   His campaign declined to elaborate on his position or make him available for an interview.   But advocates of limited immigration are thrilled that presidential candidates are taking up their cause.   'Walker's the one who really put this on the map.', said Roy Beck, executive director at NumbersUSA, a group that wants to scale back legal immigration.   'He's said it so many times now I don't see how he could possibly back out of it.'   Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, also wants to reduce immigration by 25% as part of a broader agenda to improve the economic prospects of blue-collar workers..."

"The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) is the sleepiest of the immigration-management agencies -- and that's saying a lot.   Its task is to monitor nearly 9K educational entities, which, in turn, are supposed to monitor more than a million foreign students (as well as the foreign graduates who are working in the OPT program).   It also has an odd appeals structure that chugs into motion only when SEVP denies some (usually tiny) school the right to issue the paper that creates F-1 visas.   Instead of channeling its appeals to such independent, quasi-judicial organizations as the immigration courts, the USCIS Administrative Appeals Office, or the Board of Immigration Appeals -- each of which has separate corps of judges and adjudicators -- SEVP turns inward.   It has created the SEVP Appeals Team (SEVPAT or SAT) and it consists of some SEVP staff members reviewing the negative decisions made by other SEVP staffers.   It all sounds a bit claustrophobic, if not incestuous.   But there is not much to review.   The Center for Immigration Studies filed a FOIA request with SEVP's mother organization, ICE, and received 379 pages of SAT decisions for the period 2011 December through 2014 September.   There were 95 decisions in those years, or about 32 a year.   These decisions, unlike those of AAO, are not routinely made public.   There are very few decisions compared to the 8,979 schools licensed by SEVP; the annual percentage is 0.3%, meaning that there were very few denials, or at least only a handful of them were regarded as worthy of an appeal.   The institutions appealing to SEVPAT/SAT are not only usually quite small, all but one of them had names that were new to me, with the exception being one of DeVry University's many campuses.   (That's a private, for-profit school, as are nearly all of the appellees.)...   Generally SEVPAT/SAT supports the staff's negative decisions, which is not surprising given the fact that an institution has to be in very bad shape before SEVP notices.   What SEVP, an arm of ICE, appears to do is to sort out and reject the most marginal entities wanting to bring in foreign students, but only those at the very bottom of the barrel.   As we have pointed out in the past, visa mills, such as Tri-Valley University in California and the University of Northern Virginia, had the blessing of SEVP for many years before that agency finally caught up with them."
I see not a word on how many hundreds of thousands of US citizens are employed (by DHS or the universities) to run background investigations on these millions of student visa applicants.

"A new Rasmussen poll reported exclusively by our friend Michael Patrick Leahy of Breitbart reveals the depth of antagonism Americans feel toward the federal government in the wake of the Supreme Court's decisions on same-sex 'marriage' and [ObummerDoesn'tCare].   'Only 20% [of likely voters] now consider the federal government a protector of individual liberty.', the Rasmussen Poll finds.   'Sixty percent (60%) see the government as a threat to individual liberty instead.', it concluded.   Rasmussen Reports noted, 'The Declaration of Independence, the foundational document that Americans honor on the Fourth of July, says that governments derive their authority from the consent of the governed, but just 25% believe that to be true of the federal government today.'   Leahy points out in his article, and CHQ chairman Richard Viguerie documented at some length in his book _TAKEOVER_, the Tea Party movement arose in 2009 to restore those principles of constitutionally-limited government.   But despite electoral victories that placed Republicans in control of the House of Representatives in 2010, and the senate in 2014, it is undeniable that the Republican establishment those elections empowered is instead aligned with the forces of statism.   As Breitbart's Thomas Williams noted, and justice Scalia himself pointed out in his scathing dissent in the gay 'marriage' decision, not a single member of the 9 member court is of the Protestant faith.   Not a single member has graduated from a law school other than Harvard, Yale, or Columbia.   Nor has a single member done anything other than practice some version of corporate law with 'big law' firms, sit on a federal court, work for the federal government, or work in left-wing academia.   Clearly, says Leahy, the majority of the members of the supreme court itself are part of an elitist camp of anti-constitutionalists.   The concept of popular resistance to the unconstitutional encroachment of the federal government on the rights of individuals and states has been gaining momentum over the past several years notes Leahy.   Conservative radio host Mark Levin, for instance, has advocated on behalf of an article 5 convention of the states to propose new amendments to the Constitution for ratification by the states that would limit federal powers.   Conservative author and intellectual leader Charles Murray has also advocated for a type of civil disobedience to resist unlawful federal regulations through the use of well-funded legal challenges to the most egregious of those regulations.   Both concepts have merit, says Leahy, but ultimately lack the power and effective counter-attack available through the simple mechanism offered by the 10th amendment—widespread resistance to federal over-reaches by the state governments themselves.   Bolder, constitutionally based resistance at the state level is a practical and viable remedy, one that already has broad popular support among conservatives concluded Leahy...   Leahy's conclusion is that by limiting the role of the federal government to the exercise of that set of specifically 'enumerated powers' ascribed to it in the Constitution, state governments can guarantee that our constitutional republic will continue to flourish for generations to come.   The alternative is a constitutional republic in name only, a dystopian oligarchy where words have no meaning, right is wrong, good is bad, truth is deception, and the rule of law is invented anew each day by the ruling class of federal royalty..."

"A few days ago, the Salt Lake Tribune ran a story detailing how the state of Utah enacted legislation requiring background checks to determine immigration status before issuing driver's licenses.   The law was to go into effect on July 1st.   It didn't.   The legislation ran counter to recent actions taken by many states that go out of their way to grant driver's licenses to illegal aliens -- for instance California, where activists tried vigorously to find ways to circumvent the federal Real ID Act and blur the distinction between licenses granted to illegals and everyone else, even though it would put the traveling public at risk by making it impossible for TSA inspectors to discern the difference between the two documents.   (To understand the risks posed by such documents, see the 2 excellent blogs by Jon Feere here and here.)   One would think that the federal government would approve such measures given the state of affairs in America today, when the FBI director publicly calls on state and local governments to aid in investigating and combating Islamic State directed and influenced terrorists because there are so many his agency can't handle the matter alone.   After all, anything that compromises the security of documents used to gain access to airplanes should be a matter of grave concern; conversely, anything that lends levels of security to the driver's license issuing process should be applauded.   As Feere has noted, 'the 19 2001/09/11 terrorists had nearly 30 driver's licenses among them, each with varying information'.   So does the federal government approve of measures such as Utah's? No.   The Tribune reported that the FBI has refused to allow Utah to conduct the checks using the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) data-base routinely used by state law enforcement and regulatory agencies, saying it's against policy.   'It [the FBI] will not allow Utah to use the FBI criminal data-base as long as it plans to share results with any other agency -- even if it is with a fellow federal agency like U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (US ICE).'   In a recent blog commenting on the senseless murder of Kate Steinle in San Francisco by a multiply deported, multiple-felon illegal alien from Mexico, I expressed my frustration with people who hide behind such statements, because there is nothing sacrosanct about stupid policies.   Change them.   What happened in San Francisco should be a wake-up call to the folks in the FBI who run the NCIC system: You're playing with fire.   Would you really prevent all Utah agencies from accessing the system and risk letting a wanted felon go free so that Utah doesn't catch illegal aliens trying to commit document fraud (which, BTW, is also a federal felony offense)?   Do you want to be responsible for a brutal murder such as Kate Steinle's?   What. Is. Wrong. With. This. Picture?   Of course, if the Department of Homeland Security had any chops, it could resolve much of the problem by simply giving Utah's motor vehicle bureau direct access to its massive data-base and cut out the middleman.   Maybe that will happen in some more reasonable parallel universe, but we know that isn't going to happen in this one given the [Obummer regime's] willingness to chuck public safety to the wind as long as illegal aliens are not inconvenienced in any way, shape, or form.   This brings us to the Davis-Oliver Act bills pending in both the House and Senate.   Each of them carries a common-sense provision in Section 103 that authorizes and directs use of the NCIC for information about all immigration violators.   It's past time for congress to move these bills forward."

"Conservatives have been debating the pros and cons of having an article 5 Constitutional convention for a number of years, with some arguing for a convention to propose amendments to the Constitution, while others have argued against the idea on the grounds it could 'run away' and change the very fabric of our federal constitutional republic.   But, says Breitbart's Michael Patrick Leahy, there's another alternative that is faster, and less likely to produce the kind of worrisome changes that concern many conservatives when the idea of an article 5 convention is floated, and that is an assembly of the States.   An article 5 convention of the States can be convened only upon the 'application' of 34 state legislatures to congress to call the convention, as specified in the Constitution itself.   In contrast, an assembly of the States can be convened as soon as a single state legislature passes a resolution stating it will serve as the host state.   It would then extend invitations to each of the other 49 state legislatures to send a delegation to the gathering.   As Leahy notes, at least 27 states have already passed resolutions calling for an article 5 convention of the States solely for the purpose of considering the passage of a balanced budget constitutional amendment.   If 7 more states pass the resolution, congress, acting solely in a ministerial capacity, 'shall call a convention for proposing amendments'..."

"...The worst example is the F-35 joint strike fighter.   Purchases of the F-35 fighter aircraft, the most expensive weapon system the Pentagon has ever bought, are being accelerated.   It will cost more than $400G to buy about 2,500 of them and another $1G to own and operate for the 50 years of their projected life.   For that entire time, absorbing a huge chunk of the Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps budgets, the F-35 will be the fighter that ate the defense budget.   The F-35 is supposed to be all things to all services, replacing the F-15, F-16, A-10 and F/A-18.   The Marines want it to provide close air support for troops on the ground.   The Air Force and the Navy want it to be both an attack aircraft and an air superiority fighter.   After nearly 14 years of development, it's clear that it can't perform either of those missions well.   The Air Force has always taken its responsibility for air supremacy seriously.   (The last American ground troop to be killed by an enemy aircraft died in 1953.)   That track record is currently maintained by the F-22 Raptor, a highly-capable fifth-generation fighter that can engage and kill any other aircraft.   In the days the 'fighter mafia' ran the Air Force, there was a mix of 'high' and 'low' fighters.   The F-22 is the air dominance fighter and the F-35 was supposed to be the 'low' fighter, responsible for strike missions and close air support.   But the problem is obvious: With 2,500 F-35s and only 187 F-22s, the F-35 is going to have to defend itself most of the time.   It can't, because its designers -- and the Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps leadership -- neglected to deal with the simple math to figure out that you can't protect 2,400 F-35s with just 187 F-22s.   That leaves our air forces unprepared to fight other nations' best such as Russia's Su-35 or [Red China's] J-10.   To build fighters that can't makes no sense...   The single-engine F-35 is under-powered and its control surfaces too small to maneuver effectively and win a dog-fight..."

"It is estimated that there are some 133,741 foreign criminals in prisons and jails in the USA (1).   They are not there for spitting on the sidewalk or jaywalking, and very few are there for immigration violations, as those illegal alien criminals are typically deported in fairly short order or simply let go as we have seen time and time again.   They are there in large part for molesting, raping, killing, maiming and murdering people in America, as you will see below.   Add in the 168,680 convicted criminal immigrants who have final orders of removal but who remain at large in the U.S.A., and another 179,018 convicted criminal aliens with deportation cases pending but who are also at large (2), and we have a total non-American felon population of 481,439...a number the size of our 35th largest city, Sacramento, California, and larger than the entire populations each of Atlanta, Kansas City, Omaha, Miami, Minneapolis -- and more.   And remember, for most of these felons, there was a victim.   Looking at it another way, illegal aliens constitute 27% of the federal prison population (3).   This means that a group which comprises less than 5% of the population nationally is committing 27% percent of the federal crimes.   So just by that metric alone, illegal aliens commit over five times more serious crimes on a per capita basis than residents do.   But here's another fact.   According to the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) in an 2005 April 7 report to congress entitled 'Information on Criminal Aliens Incarcerated in Federal and State Prisons and Local Jails', 'The percentage of all federal prisoners who are criminal aliens has remained the same over the last 3 years -- about 27%.   The majority of criminal aliens incarcerated at the end of calendar year 2004 were identified as citizens of Mexico.'   Sorry to report the truth here, but quite a few people owe Mr. Trump an apology..."
